Ravisha Bhardwaj

“There is no shortcut to success. Keep working hard and don’t let the obstacles stop you.”

With this belief, Rishu Sharma has made herself a celebrity among yoga participants. This 19 year old girl has participated and won many national and international yoga championships. Here is a little glimpse of her life, her struggles, and her achievements.

Ques.  At what age did you start yoga and what role has it played in your life?

Ans.    I started yoga when I was 10 years old. I have done terrible struggle. Now when I think of those days, I start shivering. Those were like the most memorable and difficult days of my life.

Yoga has made me the person I am. If I had not been into this sport, I would not have been in Miranda. I can’t imagine my life without it.

Ques.  What are the interests that are closest to your heart and why?

Ans.    Rhythmic yoga and artistic yoga because I have won gold medals in that(laughs).

Also, I love playing volleyball. It’s something that I started for fun and eventually, I started participating in the competitions and winning.

Ques.  Who gets the credit of shaping as the person you are?

Ans.    My Dad (J.P. Sharma) and my Yoga Teacher (Baishali Karmakar). I am obliged to have their blessings. My morals and values are what they taught me. I am what they had made me.

Ques.  Could you be able to tell one of the best and the worst incidents of your life?

Ans.    Best incident… when my name was announced as the winner of gold medal in international yoga championship. Worst incident…I don’t remember the bad incidents. I believe in forgetting all that goes wrong and moving on.

Ques.  What had been the turning point in your life?

Ans.    In my first competition, while I was performing, my yoga teacher complimented, “ye ladki bohot aage jaegi” (this girl will go far). That had been the turning point in my life.

Ques.  Which was the most memorable competition? International championship?

Ans.    No. it was the national yoga championship in Punjab. I was called on the stage to perform and the chief guest was so enchanted with my performance that he climbed up the stage while I was performing and blessed me by giving me Rs. 1000 out of his pocket.

Ques.  Why did you start yoga? You are good at volleyball too, then, why did you choose yoga over any other sport?

Ans.    I didn’t choose it. Actually, it’s a funny story. So, what happened was that I bunked my English class and got caught. My punishment was to attend the yoga class, hence, I did. Everyone was so amazed by seeing my flexibility that they called my parents then and there and was put into it.

Ques.  What role had Miranda played in your life?

Ans.    I’ve got an amazing group of friends. Devashri (my roommate), Arundhati, Ravisha, Anshika, Harshita are my family here in the hostel. They have helped me build my personality. They pointed out my flaws and had helped me in working on them. They are always there for me through thick and thin. Swati and Vaishali (my class friends) have also played a very significant role(laughs) like they have always helped me in cheating(laughs louder).

Ques.  Would you like to share with us one of the most memorable moment of your college life?

Ans.    Being a hosteller, I don’t have any one moment. There are millions of them. Everyday is special here with such ‘crazy friends’.

Ques.  What do you aspire to be?

Ans.    Either a Yoga Therapist or a Yoga Teacher.

Ques.  Why are you pursuing economics honours?

Ans.    (laughs)

            (laughs louder)

Maze maze me yar (Just for fun)

Arrey! I ‘was’ interested in it. (laughs again)
